Eco-Friendly Leather Alternatives

While traditional leather has many desirable properties, we recognize that some customers prefer animal-free alternatives for ethical or environmental reasons. We offer several high-quality options:

Cork Leather

Harvested from cork oak trees in a process that doesn't harm the tree, cork leather is one of our favorite sustainable materials. The trees continue to grow and produce cork bark, sequestering carbon throughout their 200+ year lifespan. Cork leather offers:

• Water resistance and durability comparable to animal leather
• Distinctive natural patterns and textures
• Lightweight properties that make it excellent for bags
• 100% biodegradability at the end of its usable life

Piñatex

Made from pineapple leaf fibers, a byproduct of the pineapple industry that would otherwise be discarded, Piñatex is an innovative material that we've recently incorporated into our collection. It offers:

• Strong, flexible properties suitable for both bags and covers
• A distinctive texture that develops character with age
• Production that provides additional income for farming communities

Recycled Leather

For those who appreciate the qualities of leather but are concerned about environmental impact, we offer recycled leather options. This material:

• Uses leather scraps from other industries that would otherwise go to waste
• Requires significantly less water and energy than producing new leather
• Maintains many of the desirable properties of traditional leather

Sustainable Textiles for Linings and Backings

The hidden materials in our products are just as important as those you can see. For linings and structural elements, we prioritize sustainable textiles:

Organic Hemp

Hemp is one of the most environmentally friendly fibers available, requiring minimal water and no pesticides to grow. We use organic hemp for many of our product linings because it is:

• Exceptionally durable and resistant to mold
• Naturally antimicrobial, keeping bags fresh
• Highly absorbent with moisture-wicking properties

Recycled PET Fabric

For products that require water resistance or specific technical properties, we use fabrics made from recycled plastic bottles (PET). This material:

• Diverts plastic waste from landfills and oceans
• Requires 50-60% less energy to produce than virgin polyester
• Provides excellent durability and water resistance

Traditional Materials with Sustainable Sourcing

We continue to offer traditional materials for customers who prefer them, but we ensure they're sourced as responsibly as possible:

Vegetable-Tanned Leather

When using animal leather, we exclusively source vegetable-tanned varieties that:

• Use plant-based tannins rather than chromium compounds
• Come from suppliers who meet strict animal welfare standards
• Are produced in tanneries with proper wastewater treatment facilities
• Develop a beautiful patina over time and can last for decades

Organic Cotton

For specific applications requiring cotton's properties, we use only organic varieties that:

• Are grown without synthetic pesticides or fertilizers
• Use 88% less water and 62% less energy than conventional cotton
• Support safer working conditions for farmers

Eco-Friendly Hardware and Accessories

Even the smallest components of our products are chosen with sustainability in mind:

• Recycled metal hardware - Zippers, buckles, and closures made from recycled brass, aluminum, and steel
• Natural dyes - Plant-based colorants that avoid toxic chemicals
• Water-based adhesives - Low-VOC alternatives to traditional glues

Sustainable Packaging

Our commitment to sustainability extends to our packaging:

• Recycled and recyclable cardboard boxes
• Paper tape secured with natural rubber adhesive
• Cornstarch-based packing peanuts that dissolve in water
